isn’t amazing how much your kids can change in one year? i have to admit that i am guilty of not having enough pictures of my own children even though i am a photographer. kind of like the cobbler’s children with worn out shoes.
so congratulations on wanting to document your child/ren!
photographing children can be a challenge, but it can also be a lot of fun. during your child’s session, my focus will mainly be on him/her, or them if multiple children. i want them to feel comfortable with me, show me their rooms (if we start in your home), sing their favorite song, and get to know them a little bit. there may even be some time where it is just me and your children. and there will be time when i need your help. unfortunately for us, our children sometimes behave the worst when we’re around. i’ve never understood that. someone please explain that to me!
we may get some pictures in their room, reading their favorite book, or playing their favorite game. as silly as it sounds, you probably won’t remember exactly what your child’s room looked like 10 years from now. it’s fun to have a picture of it! my goal in child sessions is get your children to interact with me doing what they normally do. if they are feeling pressure from me, or mom and dad, to look/act and be perfect, believe me, it’s a recipe for disaster, because it just ain’t gonna happen.
for a child session, i certainly don’t limit all the photographs i take to be of just your children, but that will be my main focus. i would be happy to get a few family shots as well.
there are times when children just won’t cooperate, and i completely understand that. been there. if that is the case, it is possible to re-schedule or schedule a second time to get some extra shots. there are days when i wake up cranky, and children are the same way…i wouldn’t want my picture taken either!
